Christmas Tree Hunt

December 14th, 2006

We have once again spent several hundred dollars to cut down our own Christmas tree with a 10-dollar permit from the forest service.

If you’ve been with us awhile, you know that my co worker John Warren and I first went out in 1977 to cut a tree while we worked together in Flagstaff. We still work together today, and sure enough, we still take our families together on this wonderful Christmas adventure to the forest.
A lot has changed over the years, the two dollar permits are 10-dollars, we take our families instead of a dog and some beer and we have to travel a lot farther. First because we live in Phoenix and second because the forest service has moved around the cutting areas and we now have to go about five miles from the Grand Canyon to get our tree. Sadly, this may have been our last family trip. Our daughter heads off to college next year, and might not be able to make the trip. The good news is that she may miss the hunt, but our good work will be well worth when she comes home for Christmas and the family will be together once again.
