Christmas shopping with the fellas….
Ok..so last week, me and my friend, Mr. Javier Soto, made plans to knock out Christmas gifts for family and friends on Saturday. The time: 2pm. The place: Scottsdale Fashion Center. At the zero hour, I try to get out of it, saying “Man, I don’t feel like dealing with the crowds.” So “Javi” (as Scott McGee and I call him) decides to go there with: “Man, look. This is a yearly tradition for us. This is how friendships stay intact.” Aside from violins going off, homie was laying it on. So..I get dressed and leave, he’s already at the mall and I call him to find out which store he’s in. What does he do to get me back for making him wait 45 minutes? On the phone he says: “I think I see you…wave your hands back and forth.” I do it. “Ok. Now jump up and down so I can make sure it’s you.” I do it. “Ok, spin around till you see me on the 2nd level.” I do it. So you know where I’m going with this by now, right?…He was NO WHERE NEAR where he had me jumping up and down, spinning and looking like a fool in the middle of the mall!! One lady grabbed her daughter and moved out of the way of “that nut.”
THEN he comes around the corner with this look on his face saying: “That’s what you get for making me wait. Now let’s go to Banana Republic.” That’s how your friends do you…lol. But he was right: it was a tradition between us and this season is the time to remember traditions. I’ll have to tell you about Christmas 2003…the year Scott McGee and I went Christmas shopping for his lovely wife, Shannon. I don’t know how much you all know about Mr. McGee…but he’s an impatient rascal! With list in hand, we started at 3 o’clock. By 3:20, father had had enough and was ready to go back home. AND would you believe, we had gotten EVERYTHING on his list! My boys…lol.
Happy holidays folks, from me and my family back in Virginia.
